Ms Newlands is a qualified Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of The Gambia. Her practice areas include Commercial Litigation, Corporate Legal Services, Islamic Personal Law, Probate and Estate Administration, Labour Law, Immigration, Family Law, Real Estate and Conveyancing and Legislative and Legal Drafting.

Ms Newlands obtained her LLB from the University of The Gambia in 2014 and later secured her BL (Hons) from the Gambia Law School in 2017. Ms Newlands was called to the Gambian Bar as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of The Gambian in 2017.

Ms Newlands joined Amie Bensouda & Co as a Trainee in 2016 and became a Junior Associate in 2018. Ms Newlands has assisted in litigation matters on labour law and commercial disputes. Ms. Newlands is also a Islamic Personal Law practitioner and routinely handles disputes on matters of Islamic Law of Inheritance.

She is a member of the Female Lawyers Association Gambia and provides pro-bono representation to both children and women. Ms Newlands frequently assists the Attorney General Chambers and Ministry of Justice in the prosecution of sexual violence cases involving children. She serves as a member of the Committee on Anti- Harassment Workplace Policy at the National Human Rights Commission and she is also a member of the Gambia Bar Association.

Ms Newlands is an executive member of Think Young Women and volunteers as the Programs Manager. She is also a member of several international women rights organisation including, Association of Women’s Rights in Development (AWID), FEMNET, and Young African Feminist Dialogues (YAFDialouges).
